Feature · Payment reminders
Let the app ask for the money.
Inbill emails your client for you when an invoice is due. A friendly reminder goes up to 3 days before the due date, a firm one on the day, and a final one after it, then at most once a week until it is paid. Reminders stop when the client pays and pause while you check an "I've paid" report. They are free on every plan.

Why it matters
Late payment is normal. Chasing it is the hard part.
In a 2025 report by Remote, 85% of freelancers said they are paid late at least some of the time. Xero's data for the last quarter of 2025 puts the average payment at about 8 days late in the US and the UK. The bigger cost is the conversation: in a GoCardless and YouGov survey of more than 1,000 UK small business owners and managers, 73% said they would give up as much as 10% of their yearly turnover to avoid an awkward talk about money.
Reminders take that conversation off your plate. The email comes from the invoice, on a schedule your client can see coming, so you do not have to decide when to ask.
The schedule
Three tones, in order
- Friendly, up to 3 days before the due date: a heads-up with the amount and the link.
- Firm, on the due date: the invoice is due today.
- Final, after the due date: it is overdue, with the amount still owed. Then at most once a week while it stays unpaid.
Every reminder has the link to the invoice page, where your client sees what they owe and how to pay you: Wise, Payoneer, bank details, local wallets or a card link you add. If you set a late fee on the invoice, the final reminder mentions it.
When they pay
It stops by itself
When your client taps "I've paid", reminders for that invoice pause and you get an email to confirm it. Record the payment, or confirm the report, and the invoice is marked paid. A part payment lowers the amount the next reminder asks for. Read the reminder templates if you want to write your own follow-ups too.

Questions people ask
When does Inbill send payment reminders?
Up to 3 days before the due date (friendly), on the due date (firm), and after it (final). After the final one it repeats at most once a week while the invoice is unpaid. Reminders go only to invoices you have sent that still have money owing.
Can I turn reminders off?
Yes. Each invoice has its own reminder switch, and Settings has two account-wide switches: one for reminders before and on the due date, one for overdue reminders.
What happens when the client says they paid?
On the invoice page your client can tap "I've paid". Reminders for that invoice pause, and you get an email asking you to confirm. When you confirm, the payment is recorded and the reminders stop for good.
Do reminders go by WhatsApp too?
Automatic reminders go by email, so the client needs an email address on file. For WhatsApp, the Send sheet writes a message in the tone that fits how late the invoice is, and you send it from your own WhatsApp in one tap.
Are payment reminders a paid feature?
No. They are free on every plan, including Free (10 invoices a month). Pro is $5 a month and removes the invoice limit.
Will my client get spammed?
No. The friendly and firm reminders go out once each. After the due date the final reminder repeats at most once a week, and no invoice gets two reminders in one day.
